New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady shows off the Best Picture Oscar
HOLLYWOOD - The New England Patriots added yet another title Sunday at the 77th Annual Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood, capturing the Oscar for Best Picture. The surprising win marked the first time in Oscar history that the award for Best Picture went to a football team rather than to a motion picture.

"This is a big shock," said Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who accepted the award on behalf of the team, "but as hot as we've been, I guess anything's possible. Thanks a lot, though; this is a huge honor. We all thought Million Dollar Baby was going to win."

"The win by the Patriots was out of nowhere," said Academy Awards expert Tom O'Neil, "particularly because they weren't even nominated for Best Picture. And because, strictly speaking, they're not actually a movie. This might be the most dramatic upset in the Best Picture category since Oliver! beat out The Lion in Winter in 1969."

"There must have been quite a write-in campaign for the Patriots," said Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Frank Pierson, "since they weren't even on the ballot. We may have to change the rules next year so that something like this doesn't happen again. Of course, the NFL tried that with pass interference after they beat the Colts in the playoffs last season, and you saw how well that worked. They won again the next year anyway."
