SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens and quarterback Jeff Garcia, who have feuded over the course of the last football season, settled their differences this Thursday during a modest ceremony at San Francisco's city hall, where the two were married by mayor Gavin Newsom. "With all that's happened between us," Garcia said, "we figured this would be the best way to let bygones be bygones."

"That's right," said Owens. "We both said a lot of things we didn't really mean, and, with all that's going on right now with the team, with my uncertain status and Jeff's uncertain status, we really thought that this would send the message that we've put all that behind us."

Owens was due to become a free agent this off-season, but his agent missed the NFL's deadline to file the proper paperwork to void the final three years of his 49ers contract. The status of Garcia is uncertain as well, as the 49ers are unsure whether to keep the former Pro Bowl quarterback on the roster of cut him to make room for the younger and more inexpensive Tim Rattay.

"If 2003 was the final year for Terrell Owens and Jeff Garcia with the 49ers," said Owens, referring to himself in the third person, "then we want the fans to remember us as not just a couple of great players, but a couple in the eyes of the law. I tell you, though, I never thought I'd be marrying a dude."

"Oh, uh, yeah," said Garcia. "Um, me either."
